First Day!!!

Morning Work
When the students arrive in the morning they give me any notes and put their folders in their mailboxes. They put their popsicle stick in the container for their lunch choice. Each day of the week there is something different for them to do while the rest of the children get to the classroom and we take care of any notes or after school changes.

READING WORKSHOP
In Reading Workshop readers have begun learning about building good reading habits. They have learned about taking care of our books, reading the whole time during workshop,
taking sneak peaks and checking sneak peaks.

We have also been learning about doing something when the book is finished~rereading,
rereading a favorite part and
retelling in our heads.

Readers have begun to keep track of how much they read during
workshop and set goals for themselves. Be sure and ask your child about this and our weekly reading celebration
that we started Friday.

Information will be coming soon about nightly reading homework and take-home book bags.

Phonics

We kicked off our phonics with a study of our names. Students are being phonics professors and studying  upper and lowercase letters, syllables, words within a name, vowels and consonants and blends and digraphs. Students work with a phonics partner and rug clubs.

Mr. Davis
Mr. Davis,  our Speech-Language Pathologist  will be joining us every Tuesday to
run our morning meeting. We are very lucky to have him as our guest meeting leader!

Everyday Math
We began to explore some tools in our math toolboxes. The students used their pattern block templates to explore shapes. They used their pennies and dice to play The Penny Dice Game.
Their favorite exploration was Monster Squeeze! You will get a chance to play these games with your child at Open House.

Ish

We have been reading, Ish. It is a book about a young boy who
discovers he doesn't have to be perfect. This book has so many wonderful lessons. Be sure and talk to your child about the story. On Friday, the class had their first art project. Sharpies and water colors! You will get to see the final product at Open House.
