Germs, Germs, Germs!

Mrs. Taylor came in for a special lesson on germs and hand washing. She brought her special germ sprinkles. Be sure and ask your child what they learned.

Mr. Davis
Mr. Davis shared with the students how it's helpful to visualize a plan. He had them think about something they were going to do that day and how they were going to do it. The magic glasses help you see clearer. It seemed to work! Their plans were great. Visualizing is a great strategy when writing.

The SSDA
Have you heard about the SSDA, the Super Secret Detective Agency? A few weeks ago Officer Dave showed up in our classroom with a note from the SSDA asking the students to be Word Detectives. They agreed. Officer Dave said the confidential letter was dropped off at the police station. The students were told they would be committing to several missions.

MISSION 1
Word detectives are always on the lookout. They notice when there is a problem and stop to solve it right away.

Students spent their reading time focusing on this mission.

MISSION 2
Word detectives look CLOSELY to get clues. Word detectives make sure to look across the WHOLE word from start to end.

Officer Dave showed up handcuffed to a special protective case to deliver this important mission. After removing the handcuffs and opening the case, students were given special detective lens to help with this mission. They first looked closely at words around the room and then settled in with their reading partners.

MISSION 3
Word detectives use everything they know to solve problems.

Officer Dave came in under cover to deliver Mission 3. Students were reminded of all the good habits they learned and were using.

On the fourth day of these missions Officer Dave did not come in and the students were concerned. However, we got a call from Officer Stanley from the SSDA. He told the kids he would look into where Officer Dave was. He asked the kids if they were being good word detectives every day and to continue to be on the lookout for hard words and use their super detective skills to solve them. Here they are when Detective Stanley called. They were very excited!

CONGRATULATIONS!
On Friday, Officer Dave finally returned. He came with certificates and Word Detective badges the students earned!

Detective Stanley texted before the students left for the day congratulating them and wishing them all a Happy Thanksgiving.

Tune in later as the detective business continues...
